Welcome to Hotel Rollator – a place that appears to be more about passing through than being at home; a place where many people do not really want to arrive. There is a constant coming and going, and yet you are still invited to take a seat and stay for coffee and cake, served by the friendly staff and surrounded by residents. As visitors we can rent occupied rooms by the hour and embark on a journey into the past.
Together, artists and residents of the Caritas-operated senior citizens’ and nursing home in St. Peter, Graz, have transformed stories and memories into images that visualise lived history and, at the same time, give new insights into the present. They are stories with worn-out phrases, with leaps and cracks; attempts to interpret and endure the story of one’s own life. This resulted in short animated films and a magazine, both bridges linking visitors and residents, the past and the present.
