You forget things

You forget things, 2009
Edition of 2000 cards, thermographic print on cardboard
Card 135 x 135 mm, envelope 140 x 140 mm

Mailing of 2000 printed cards

Heather and Ivan Morison have suggested a number of ambitious projects for the exhibition in the city that could not be carried out within the given timeframe and with the available resources. In addition to a distinctive practice of art for the public space and artworks on their own land in Wales, the artist couple has also been creating numerous mail art calls as an open series of works since 2000. Simple square cards with printed texts in white envelopes (both always in the same formats) are sent to the recipients on the mailing list of the commissioners of these works, with no indication of the sender. The texts range from brief travel reports to the results of their gardening or animal observations to other seemingly fictitious stories with a certain element of privacy and instability whose context remains open and undecided. This combination of content not only creates a certain tension, but also a kind of pause, an interruption in the bustle of everyday life upon reading the private messages on the cards.

Heather and Ivan Morrison are filling in time until the realisation of a big project in the city space of Graz by posting this card as a kind of harbinger; the project can, we hope, be carried out next year.
